Account Muting

Mute is a feature that allows you to remove an account's Tweets from your timeline without unfollowing or blocking that account. ...

How to mute an account

  • Go to the profile page of the person you wish to mute.
  • Click the overflow icon.
  • Select Mute from the options listed.

Muting options for words and hashtags

You might see content in tweets that you’d like to avoid. Twitter gives you the option to mute tweets that contain particular words, phrases, usernames, emojis, or hashtags. Muting will remove these Tweets from your Notifications tab, push notifications, SMS, email notifications, Home timeline and from replies to tweets.

Note: Muting words and hashtags only applies to your notifications and Home timeline. You will still see these tweets, via search. Notifications for muted words and hashtags are applied to replies and mentions, including all interactions on those replies and mentions: likes, Retweets, additional replies, and Retweets with comment.

You may have opted-in to receive mobile notifications when an account, you follow, tweets. If so, muting words and hashtags will not apply to these notifications. You will still receive such mobile notifications from these accounts, even if their tweet(s) include a word or hashtag, you have muted.
